We fit them all, and the fixings change with the roof. Slate gets hooks that don't pierce it. Concrete tile gets standard roof hooks. Flat-roofed Cumbernauld terraces get a tilt frame. Four-in-a-block owners have their own roof section so there's no factor consent to chase. Tenements need the other owners and the factor on board, and we can help with that.
A 4.3 kW array of ten 430W panels makes around 3,400 to 3,600 kWh a year in Renfrewshire or Lanarkshire. That's a little less than Fife, and it's why almost every system we fit on this side has a battery: the west gets plenty of bright showery days, and the battery is what turns those into evening power instead of cheap export.
South is best but an east-west split still gives around 85% of a south roof and works well with a battery. Greenock's hillside streets and the South Side's west-facing terraces both do fine. We check shading from chimneys and neighbours on the imagery before we draw the layout.

For most houses in the west, none needed. Solar on a house roof is permitted development in Scotland as long as the panels don't stick up more than a metre and the building isn't listed. The places to check are Glasgow's conservation areas (Park, Dowanhill, Pollokshields and a few others), Paisley's town centre, and anything inside the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park boundary around Balloch and Drymen. We look your address up before quoting and do the drawings if consent is needed. Every job is notified to SP Energy Networks, and anything over 3.68 kW per phase gets prior approval, which we apply for while the design is being done.

Yes. Panels generate from daylight, not heat, and a 2020 University of Edinburgh study measured Edinburgh's average output at 10.6 kWh per day against London's 12.2 kWh, only 13% less. Scotland's long summer days offset the short winter ones, and a battery lets you use midsummer surplus in the evening instead of exporting it for pennies. The west coast is wetter, but panels generate on bright cloud as well as sun and the Gulf Stream keeps winters mild, so a battery that banks every bright spell is what makes the numbers work here.
