HomeHome Battery Storage
Home battery storage · West Scotland

Bank the bright spells.

The west gets its sun in bursts between the showers. A battery catches those bursts and uses them at teatime, and on dark winter days it fills up overnight at off-peak rates instead.

26.32p

Price-cap electricity rate, October to December 2026. What every evening unit costs without a battery.

About 7p overnight

Typical off-peak rate on EV and smart tariffs. A battery filled then runs your morning for a quarter of the price.

0% VAT

Retrofit and standalone batteries have been zero-rated since February 2024. That ends 31 March 2027.

Why the battery matters more on this coast

Glasgow and Ayrshire homes use most of their electricity between five and ten at night, after the panels have stopped. Without storage, half of what you make goes out to the grid at 15 to 18p a unit and you buy it back at 26.32p, the current price-cap rate. With a 5.1 kWh battery, a typical three-bed home in Hamilton or Irvine uses 70 to 80% of its own generation instead of 40%. That difference is most of the saving.

The winter half of the year

From November to February the panels make a fraction of what they make in June. A battery on a smart tariff charges overnight at around 7p a unit and runs the morning and evening peaks, so it is still saving money on a wet Tuesday in January when the roof hasn't seen the sun.

Size

5.1 kWh for most three-bed homes. 10.2 kWh if you have an EV, a heat pump or four-plus bedrooms. Modules stack to 15 or 20 kWh for big Bearsden or Newton Mearns houses that use it. We size from your bills, not from the biggest thing we can sell.

Backup

Arran, Argyll, Galloway and the Ayrshire coast get more power cuts than the central belt. An EPS circuit keeps lights, fridge, router and boiler controls going when the grid drops. Tick it on the form and we'll design it in.

Wall-mounted home battery and hybrid inverter in a garage

10-year battery warranty

Lithium iron phosphate cells rated for more than 6,000 cycles. Safer chemistry than the older lithium-ion packs.

Smart tariff ready

Charge schedules for the Octopus, EDF, E.ON and OVO off-peak windows are set up on install day.

Retrofit

Got panels already?

Lots of homes across Glasgow and Lanarkshire had panels fitted between 2011 and 2019 under the old Feed-in Tariff, usually with a string inverter and no storage. We can add an AC-coupled battery alongside the existing inverter, or replace the inverter with a hybrid and connect the battery on the DC side. Your FiT payments are unaffected either way. Retrofit batteries are 0% VAT until 31 March 2027 and we deal with the network notification.

Can you install in a tenement or a four-in-a-block?

Four-in-a-block homes each own their own roof section, so installs are simple. Tenements need agreement from the other owners and the factor, and we can handle that process with you.

Do I need planning permission for solar panels in Scotland?

Usually not. Roof-mounted solar on a house is permitted development in Scotland provided the panels do not project more than 1 metre from the roof and the building is not listed. Conservation areas and the Loch Lomond & Trossachs and Cairngorms National Parks have extra rules, and we check the boundary and prepare any drawings for you.

What is the Smart Export Guarantee and can I get it?

The SEG pays you for every kWh you export to the grid. Rates in September 2026 run from about 15p to 25p per kWh depending on supplier, and you need a smart meter plus an MCS or Flexi-Orb certificate for the installation. All installations are commissioned and certified through our MCS-registered partner, so you qualify for Smart Export Guarantee payments.
